Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced in an interview during his visit to New York for the UN General Assembly that Türkiye is set to produce 10 million cubic meters of natural gas from the Sakarya gas field in the coming months. “We will be providing natural gas for over 4 million households ourselves,” he said, emphasizing that this discovery is the largest in Türkiye’s history. The country aims to reduce its dependency on imports as production ramps up.
Bayraktar also highlighted the importance of renewable energy, stating, “We want to put 5,000 megawatts of new solar and wind into service every year.” He stressed that Türkiye’s growing market and energy demand, driven by population growth and urbanization, offer significant investment opportunities.
Additionally, Bayraktar mentioned a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) deal signed in Houston, which will bring 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas annually to Türkiye for the next decade. Investors see Türkiye as “a stable developing market,” he said, adding that the country also plans to expand its nuclear energy capacity to 20,000 megawatts by 2050.
Minister Bayraktar visited the Ihlas News Agency team, which is working just across from the Turkish House in New York, USA, for the UN General Assembly meetings, and the live broadcast vehicle that provides live broadcast service to the world, and received information from Ihlas News Agency Operations and International Marketing Coordinator Özgür Yorul. Minister Bayraktar, who examined the live broadcast vehicle during the visit, thanked the IHA team and congratulated them for their work.
