Türkiye’s Chargé d’Affaires in Damascus, Burhan Köroğlu, announced efforts to investigate Sednaya Prison, infamous for torture under the Assad regime. Speaking after inspections with AFAD President Okay Memiş, Köroğlu emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to identifying war crimes and supporting Syria’s reconstruction.
AFAD has launched search operations with 43 vehicles and 120 personnel, focusing on the prison and surrounding areas. “The history of this prison is well-known, with serious crimes committed. AFAD’s research will play a key role in uncovering the facts,” Köroğlu said.
He added that Türkiye will meet with Syria’s interim government leaders and opposition figures, highlighting there is “no internal conflict” and no need for external intervention.
