Turkish pilot conducts flights with children in UK

On the occasion of the 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, Turkish pilot Selçuk Konarolu, who lives in England, conducted a special flight with 6 children. During the pre-flight preparations, Konarolu spoke with the children and informed them about the flight. The children had unforgettable moments with the flight.

“I wanted to reach our children and young people and organize such an event together with them by combining the 23 April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, donated by the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk to the children of the world, and the 19 May Youth and Sports Day celebrations addressed to the youth,” Konarolu said after the flight. “Our children, like all children around the world, are gifted. I wanted to introduce them to aviation by performing an effective and safe flight,” he added.

Stating that the flights take place in 2 different time zones, Konaroğlu said, “Our children really liked it. We made our flight by giving technical information about where to go, how to fly, how planes fly, and technical information that children can understand. By allocating more space to these activities, we want to include our children and young people in aviation and introduce them to airplanes and the sky. We are trying to fulfill our duties as aviators, corresponding to the order of our Great Leader Atatürk, “The future is in the skies”. We are our children’s past, but our children are our future, so we had a great day with them today. The smiles on their faces worth the whole world.”

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the recent peace talks in Istanbul have brought a new dimension to diplomatic efforts on Ukraine and proposed a leaders’ summit hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. “A summit with leaders from Russia, Ukraine, and the US could help achieve a long-term ceasefire,” he said.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Kyiv with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Fidan emphasized Türkiye’s ongoing diplomatic efforts, stating that President Erdoğan has been working actively since the war began. He added that talks in Istanbul on May 16 led to concrete results, including a prisoner swap.

Fidan shared insights from his prior visit to Moscow and said Russia is open to further talks on June 2. He stressed the importance of continuing momentum and involving international actors to build common ground for peace.

Fidan is also scheduled to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Andriy Yermak, Rustem Umerov, and representatives of the Crimean Tatar and Gagauz Turkish communities.
