Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan flew to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to attend the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Cyprus invasion. Landing at Ercan Airport in Nicosia at 9.20 local time, Erdoğan was welcomed by TRNC President Ersin Tatar, TRNC Republican Assembly Speaker Zorlu Töre, TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Turkey’s Nicosia Ambassador Metin Feyzioğlu and other officials.
The operation in question was launched by the Turkish armed forces in order to regain control after the coup that broke out in Cyprus in 1974.
