Sinop University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Biology Department Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Güley Kurt Coşkun and her student Dr. Sevgi Kuş, as well as Ege University Faculty of Fisheries Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Melih Ertan Çınar, conducted a comprehensive study on the Nephtyidae (Annelida) family members found along Turkey’s Black Sea and Marmara Sea coasts. Two of the six polyketide types discovered as a result of the research were named and described for the first time in the scientific community. One of the species was named Nephtys sinopensis, referring to its type locality, the city of “Sinop”, and the other was named inermonephtys turcica, referring to Turkey.

Providing information about the study, Assoc. Dr. Coşkun said, “This study we did was about the taxonomy of polychaete species. The study was carried out from the samples collected within the scope of my doctoral student Sevgi Kuş’s thesis. We have defined 2 new species for the scientific world.”
