As Türkiye marks Labor and Solidarity Day on May 1, Adana’s workers remain steadfast in their roles, contributing to the nation’s economy. While various celebrations mark the day nationwide, Adana sees workers diligently working across different sectors. From baking bread in bustling bakeries to harvesting crops in the fields and selling goods in public spaces, the city’s workers continue their vital roles.
Salih Gülağacı, a baker, highlighted the essence of true labor on May 1, emphasizing that work is intrinsic to life itself. He stressed the crucial role of workers in sustaining the world’s functioning and urged recognition and appreciation for their efforts.
Similarly, Yılmaz Deme, working in agriculture, expressed the sentiment shared by many field workers, stating that their true holiday comes after completing their harvest duties.
Contrastingly, Samet Eker, a shopkeeper, highlighted the disparity in leave between desk jobs and manual labor, underscoring that for workers like him, every day is a workday, including May 1. While office workers enjoy their holiday, workers in service sectors like Eker’s continue their dedicated service without pause.
