A mass shooting at a party celebrating the Christian holiday of the Birth of John the Baptist left 11 people dead in Irapuato, Guanajuato, central Mexico. Authorities reported that 20 others were injured and hospitalized. The state prosecutor’s office also confirmed five additional deaths from separate incidents across Guanajuato on the same day. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum called the attack “very sad” and stated that an investigation is underway. The religious holiday is observed annually on June 24 by various Christian denominations.
