Türkiye has begun delivering its domestically produced Altay main battle tanks to the Turkish Armed Forces. The tanks, manufactured at BMC’s Ankara facility, mark a milestone in the country’s defense industry.
Developed under a 2018 mass production contract between BMC and the Presidency of Defense Industries, 250 Altay tanks will be produced, with contributions from nearly 200 mostly local subcontractors.
Named after General Fahrettin Altay, the tanks feature advanced systems including a 120 mm L55 main gun, Volkan II fire control system, AKKOR active protection, and a hydropneumatic suspension for superior mobility and protection across all terrains.
