Türkiye Seeks ASEAN Dialogue Partnership

At the ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partnership Sixth Tripartite Meeting in Laos, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized Türkiye’s aim to become ASEAN’s Dialogue Partner.

During the meeting, held alongside the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting, Fidan highlighted the challenges in the international order, noting intensified competition between great powers and complex geopolitical issues. He stressed that the war in Ukraine demonstrates that distance does not shield countries from global conflicts.

Fidan condemned Israel for violating international law and causing regional instability, pointing out that rising energy costs, inflation, and a looming food crisis demand more transparent, fair, and inclusive international cooperation.

Reiterating Türkiye’s commitment to effective multilateralism, Fidan said, “Türkiye aims to become ASEAN’s Dialogue Partner to foster a more inclusive and structured dialogue and cooperation.”
