Türkiye’s population grew by 292,567 people in 2024, reaching 85,664,944, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK). Males accounted for 50.02% of the population, while females made up 49.98%.
The foreign population declined by nearly 90,000, totaling 1,480,547, with 48.3% male and 51.7% female.
Urbanization continued to rise, with 93.4% of residents living in provincial and district centers, up from 93% in 2023. A revised classification system showed that 67.2% of the population lives in densely populated urban areas, 15.5% in medium-density urban areas, and 17.2% in rural regions.
The population of 40 provinces declined in 2024, a significant increase from the 10 provinces that saw decreases in 2023. Istanbul remains the most populous city, with 15,701,602 residents.
