A scuffle broke out between Israeli fans and pro-Palestinian protesters before and after the match between Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv football team and the Dutch team Ajax in the 4th week of the UEFA Europa League in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands.
Amsterdam police detained 57 pro-Palestinian protesters who marched to the stadium to hold a demonstration after the match despite the ban.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered two planes to be sent to Amsterdam for the Israelis to return to their country and urged the Dutch government to take action against those involved in the incident. Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof then announced that he had spoken with Netanyahu and that the criminals would be caught and tried.
