Software developer Kilian Haerter (25) and designer Danilo Spasojevic (28) recently traveled to Bursa, Türkiye, to celebrate Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr with friends they met online. The two professionals from Germany, who both adopted the name Ibrahim, converted to Islam two years ago. Spasojevic, who comes from an Orthodox Christian family, noted that his wife is also a convert.
The men discovered the religion through “Hisar Kapısı,” a Turkish platform that uses artificial intelligence to translate Islamic content into German. After initially practicing in secret to avoid family backlash, they have now fully embraced their faith. During their visit, the friends prayed together at the Hafza Ana Mosque and are currently considering whether to remain in Germany to educate others about Islam or relocate to a Muslim-majority country.
