Typhoon Danas has led to the evacuation of 2,853 residents in Taiwan, mostly from mountainous areas near Kaohsiung, as strong winds and heavy rains swept through the island. At least 28 people sustained minor injuries, and landslides and floods were reported in multiple regions.
Schools and workplaces in central and southern Taiwan were shut down, while the Alishan Highway was closed due to landslide risk. Winds reached up to 137 km/h, damaging rooftops and billboards.
Authorities warned residents to stay indoors and noted that typhoons taking the Taiwan Strait route are rare, with the last similar event recorded in 1986.
