Typhoon Fung-wong struck southern Taiwan after battering the Philippines, injuring 51 people and forcing more than 8,000 to evacuate. Authorities said the storm brought strong winds and heavy rain, cutting power to over 11,000 homes and water to nearly 9,000.
Schools and offices were closed in several coastal cities, including Kaohsiung, Taichung, and Tainan, as winds reached 100 km/h and rainfall exceeded 1,600 millimeters in Yilan. Officials warned of landslides and urged residents to avoid mountain areas as the typhoon weakens.
