Uber Agrees to Pay $178M to Taxi Drivers in Australia

In Australia, a settlement was reached in the class action lawsuit filed against the US-based company Uber, which has been going on for 5 years. Maurice Blackburn, the law firm that filed the lawsuit, announced that Uber agreed to pay 271.8 million Australian dollars to cover the economic losses of taxi and private car drivers.

Uber was accused in the case of violating laws regarding the licensing of vehicles and taking away the earnings of licensed taxi drivers.

The law firm also stated that this was a historic agreement as it was the fifth highest class action verdict ever in Australian legal history.
