After British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the Coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions were eased on Wednesday, UK Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Sajid Javid held a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Office and made a statement on the subject. Mr. Javid pointed out the government plans to replace legal requirements on COVID-19 self-isolation. “We are looking to replace legal requirements on self-isolation with advice and guidance,” Mr. Javid said about further time course.
“We cannot eradicate this virus, and its future variants. Instead, we must learn to live with COVID, in the same way that we’ve learnt to live with flu, and we’ll be setting out our long term plan for living with COVID-19 this Spring,” Javid said, while underlining the current situation on COVID-19 in the country.
Javid stated that the self-isolation is a necessity for people who have tested positive for COVID-19 at the moment. “I’d urge everyone to think about what they can do to keep the virus at bay. Whether it’s washing your hands, letting in fresh air, or getting tested and self-isolating if you test positive,” Mr. Javid said.
On the other hand, Mr. Javid indicated that with the easing of restrictions, the UK has entered a “next chapter” in its fight against COVID-19, and said, “This is a moment that we can all be proud of”. Javid said, with the success of the UK in the COVID-19 vaccination program, the UK applied the most booster shots in the Europe.
