The invasion attempt of Russia against Ukraine has passed 1 year. The United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted the resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and calling on Russia to withdraw its troops from the region and end the war by 7 votes to 141. Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Syria, Mali, Eritrea, and Nicaragua voted against the decision, while 32 countries, including China, India, South Africa, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, abstained.

Noting that they welcomed the decision, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba said that the adoption of the resolution by a majority of votes is proof that those who support his country are not only the West.

Although United Nations General Assembly resolutions are not binding, they have symbolic significance. Unlike the Security Council, Russia does not have a unilateral veto power on General Assembly resolutions.
