Migratory birds spending the winter in Africa, stops over Ekşisu Reeds in Erzincan, Turkey to take a break from their long journey. Members of over 300 various bird species, including the ones accepted as world heritages, visit the reeds to rest before flying to Asia continent again. Cranes, mallard ducks, pochards, teals, anas querquedulas, grouses, white storks, pelicans, herons, spoonbills, cormorants, wild gooses, wild ducks and songbirds are the some of the species that Ekşisu Reeds hosts during their stopover period in end of the spring.
“Throughout the observations made in the Ekşisu Reeds in Erzincan, it was determined that some migratory birds such as cranes have settled in the region thanks to the favorable climatic conditions, the presence of a safe environment and the richness of nutritional resources.” says Tercanlı, a bird watcher.
