The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) will officially end its operations in Jerusalem following a law passed by the Israeli parliament on September 28, 2024. The closure will deprive tens of thousands of Palestinians of essential services, including education and healthcare.

Palestinian Presidency Spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh condemned Israel’s decision, calling it a provocation that disregards international legitimacy and could escalate regional tensions.

Israel has accused UNRWA of links to Hamas, alleging that some staff were involved in the October 7, 2023, attack. UNRWA, which has operated since 1949, provides aid to millions of Palestinian refugees across Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria.
