A US federal court in Boston has ruled to extradite Timur Cihantimur and his mother, Eylem Tok, to Türkiye. Cihantimur, who caused the death of Oğuz Murat Aci and injured four others in Istanbul while driving without a license, fled to the US with his mother. The court decision has been sent to the US State Department for final approval.
Judge Donald Cabell rejected their appeals and ruled that Cihantimur be extradited for negligent homicide, while Tok faces charges of protecting a criminal and tampering with evidence. The US government must submit an extradition certificate within seven days before the State Department makes its final decision. Both will remain in custody until the process is completed.
