US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that 500 more National Guard troops will be sent to Washington, D.C., following the shooting of two guardsmen near the White House. Calling the attack “cowardly,” Hegseth vowed to protect the capital, saying President Donald Trump ordered the security increase.
Hegseth said the attack would only strengthen their resolve to keep Washington safe, noting historic reductions in crime. He also reaffirmed the administration’s hard-line stance against drug cartels, saying the US will “find and eliminate” narco-terrorists responsible for trafficking.
