First Turkish Mayor in US and former Mayor of Chatham Township, Tayfun Selen seated as Commissioner Director of Morris County located in New Jersey State. Morris County Commissioner Tayfun Selen was sworn in as Director of the Board of County Commissioners and addressed the guests after the ceremony. Being a US citizen of Turkish origin, Selen stated that he moved to the US 25 years ago. “I am thankful to be living in Morris County – the best community anywhere – and with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic again at our doorstep, I will continue to work with this board to protect our residents and our business owners,” Selen said.
On the other hand, Tayfun Selen fisrt came to US in 1996 with no money, unable to speak English. His first job was pumping gas at a service station in Madison, less than 5 miles from where he was being sworn in. He took the oath as an American citizen in 2008 and became mayor of Chatham Township in 2017. Selen made history as the first Turk to hold this post in the US.
