A deadly riot erupted at the CEFAS women’s prison in Tamara, Honduras, resulting in 41 fatalities. The prison was placed under a state of emergency, and some injured inmates were released. The riot led to a fire inside the prison. According to a wounded prisoner, the violence began when a group of inmates armed with AR-15 assault rifles entered cell No. 1 and opened fire. The majority of the deceased inmates had burn injuries, and it is suspected that the attackers were affiliated with the 18 gang. Authorities are currently working to identify the victims.
