Water Leak Damages Hundreds of Books at Louvre Museum

A water leak at the Louvre Museum in Paris damaged around 400 rare books in the Egyptian antiquities library, according to museum officials.

Deputy Director General Francis Steinbock said the leak came from aging pipes and affected one of the section’s three rooms. He noted that the damaged books were “not valuable,” though inspections continue.

The Louvre has long been aware of its plumbing issues, with major repairs scheduled for September 2026.
