A wildfire on Yamanlar Mountain in İzmir’s Karşıyaka district has rapidly grown, driven by strong winds, and is now threatening nearby residential areas. The blaze, which started last night at 21:10, has blanketed the city center in smoke, visible from every district.
Firefighters initiated their response just five minutes after the fire broke out, working through the night with 13 sprinklers, 3 water supply vehicles, 2 dozers, and 3 ground teams from the İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry. At sunrise, aerial support joined the effort, with 2 aircraft, 5 helicopters, 15 water tankers, and additional ground teams.
Despite their efforts, strong winds have made it difficult to contain the fire, which continues to approach populated areas. The city remains under a cloud of smoke as firefighting teams work to bring the flames under control.
