Wildfire spreads in Arizona due to strong winds

A state of emergency was declared in the region as the fires in Coconino County, Arizona, USA, spread rapidly with the effect of strong winds. While 766 houses have been evacuated so far, 2,300 hectares of area have been turned to ash by the flames.

Fire broke out in different parts of Coconino County, Arizona, USA. The flames, which rose up to 30-meter yesterday, swept through the area of ​​houses and pine trees on the outskirts of Flagstaff. Winds of up to 80 kilometers per hour caused the flames to spread to the highway. 766 houses and a thousand animals have been evacuated so far due to the fires, and it will not be possible to determine whether anyone is injured until the flames are brought under control, authorities. A state of emergency was declared in the region after the fire has reached an area of ​​2,300 hectares.

Coconino National Forest spokesman Brady Smith said the fire was moving northeast through the more densely populated areas of Flagstaff, home to Northern Arizona University, and toward Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. “It’s good that the flames are not directed at a densely populated area,” Smith said.
