Wildfires in Argentina’s Patagonian province of Chubut have destroyed around 50,000 hectares of land, as fires continue to spread across the drought-hit region. The worst damage has been reported in the UNESCO-listed Los Alerces National Park, home to ancient alerce trees, with helicopters supporting ongoing firefighting efforts.
The fires have also affected the Patagonian provinces of Río Negro, Neuquén, and Santa Cruz. President Javier Milei has faced criticism as austerity measures sharply reduced funding for Argentina’s National Fire Management Service, weakening wildfire response capacity
