At least 18 people have died and around 20,000 have been evacuated as wildfires continue to burn in southern Chile. The worst-hit areas are the Nuble and Bio Bio regions, where President Gabriel Boric declared a state of catastrophe , saying all resources have been mobilized. Authorities said about 8,500 hectares of land have burned and at least 250 homes were destroyed. Strong winds and high temperatures are fueling the fires and hampering firefighting efforts.
