A mobile phone camera captured a wolf pack, around 10 in number, venturing into Van’s Gürpınar district in search of food due to heavy snowfall and cold weather. The footage, recorded by a truck driver passing through the Shamanis region, approximately 40 kilometers from Gürpınar, shows the hungry wolves moving in two groups across a snowy field towards the mountainous terrain.
The Director of Van YYÜ Wild Animals Protection and Rehabilitation Center, Prof. Dr. Lokman Aslan, addressed the situation, emphasizing that wild animals, including wolves, pose no threat to humans if their natural habitats are undisturbed. He noted recent observations of wolf, fox, and bear packs moving closer to the city center in Gürpınar and cautioned against disposing of animal carcasses near settlements.
