The hydrogen inside a balloon held by Ms. Giang during her birthday party in the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi, burst into flames when it came into contact with the burning candles on the cake, causing second-degree burns on the young woman’s face.
“I couldn’t watch the footage of the incident for a long time because of the fear I experienced. If I had known, I wouldn’t have put myself in such danger. Let my unfortunate incident be a lesson to others,” Giang said.
Experts warn that hydrogen balloons should not be used in closed areas or for entertainment purposes as hydrogen is highly flammable.
