An 18-year-old military candidate, who was getting 3-month basic training at the Self Defense Forces (SDF) Hino Basic Firing Facility in Gifu, Japan, fired his automatic rifle at three SDF personnel during target practice. The candidate fired eight shots and heavily injured one military personnel in their 50s and two personnel in their 20s. Two of the injured personnel lost their lives. The young candidate was detained on charges of attempted murder.
