Emergency teams in western China’s Gansu province have successfully rescued 17 people after a sudden landslide buried dozens. Desperate search operations are currently underway to locate 16 individuals who remain trapped beneath the heavy debris. While authorities have not yet determined what triggered the collapse, the mountainous region has a tragic history of similar disasters. Previous incidents in the area include an August 2020 slide that displaced over 72,000 residents, as well as a catastrophic rain-fueled mudslide near Zhouqu that claimed more than 1,500 lives.
