3,000-Year-Old Artifacts Unearthed in Sacred Hittite City

In Samsun’s Türkiye, excavations at the Vezirköprü Oymaağaç Mound in Nerik, the sacred city of the Hittites, have uncovered 3,000-year-old hazelnuts and wooden pieces cut with bronze tools. This site, important for understanding the Hittite civilization, has been under excavation for 17 years, involving experts from the USA, Australia, Germany, and Turkey. Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı, along with local officials, visited the site to receive updates on the ongoing work. Artifacts, including cuneiform tablets, are on display at the Samsun Museum.
