32 dead as a bus swept off from bridge in Kenya

On Saturday, a bus was swept off from a bridge at Kitui County, while trying to go across flooding Enziu River in Kenya. While 20 died according to initial reports, on Sunday it’s been stated that 9 dead bodies found and death toll rose up to 32 in the accident. “The coach’s wreck fully pulled out from the river. Today we found 9 dead bodies and death toll rose up to 32. Rescue efforts will continue tomorrow in order to not leave any dead bodies on river bed,” Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu said in a statement he released on his social media account on Sunday.

Again on Saturday, Kitui Chief Leah Kithei indicated that the bus has passenger capacity of 51 and it was owned by Mwingi Junior Ruhban School run by a catholic church, in a statement he released. Kithei also stated that there were members of the Mwingi Catholic Church choir and wedding guests on the coach, who were on their way to attend a wedding in the Nuu Region in Kenya.
