3rd Eurasia Law Congress holds in Montenegro

300 lawyers and academics from Turkey and 42 other countries gathered in Montenegro for the 3rd Eurasia Law Congress . On the first day of the two-day meeting, 13 experts in their fields delivered speeches in panels titled “Landlocked States’ Powers in Maritime Areas,” “Protection of the Marine Environment and the Blue Economy,” and “Ensuring Maritime Safety and Security.” 14 lawyers and academics delivered speeches on the “Operation of Marine Resources,” “Dispute Regarding the Delimitation of Marine Areas,” and “Disputed Marine Areas” panels on the second day of the meeting.

The first panel focused on the exploitation of renewable energy resources under the offshore regime, the exploitation of marine genetic resources beyond national jurisdictions, the challenges of conserving sedentary species on the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles, and the exploitation of mineral resources at the site. In the second panel, where the preferred methods of delimiting the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf with territorial waters were explained, speeches were made on the recognition of maritime jurisdiction areas for natural or artificial islands, the obligations of states under international law, the joint management of disputed maritime jurisdiction areas to ensure peace, and the Turkey-Libya maritime jurisdiction agreement.
