5 died after forest fires in Siberia spread to houses

The ongoing forest fires in Russia’s Siberia region cannot be extinguished. Forest fires at different points, especially in the Krasnoyarsk region of Siberia, spread to settlements despite all the fire extinguishing efforts. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia (EMERCOM) reported that about 200 houses were engulfed in flames due to fires that spread to 16 residential areas in Achinsky district of Krasnoyarsk region. EMERCOM also reported that 1 school and 1 sawmill in the district were completely burned to ashes. “For extinguishing forest fires in Krasnoyarsk, 300 people and more than 90 equipment, as well as a fire fighting train, are involved in the operations. Fires are difficult to extinguish due to strong winds,” EMERCOM said.

In addition to that, EMERCOM stated that a state of emergency was declared in the region, and it was learned that efforts were initiated to evacuate some villages. While it’s announced that 5 people have lost their lives in the fires so far, no details were given about the size of the areas where the flames spread.
