6.5 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Japan’s Ishikawa Prefecture

Japan was hit by a 6.5 magnitude earthquake at 14:42 local time off the coast of Ishikawa province. While there was no tsunami risk, the quake was felt in several regions, including Niigata, Toyama, Fukui, and Fukushima. The government is still trying to confirm details of the earthquake, but Hirokazu Matsuno, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary, has confirmed that there were reports of collapsed houses in Ishikawa province, where the earthquake’s epicenter was located. The Shika Nuclear Power Plant in Ishikawa Province reported no anomalies following the earthquake. One person in the city of Suzu died after falling from the stairs due to the quake’s impact.
