In Türkiye’s Sakarya, a 700-year-old Ottoman plane tree remains a testament to history, defying time in the district known for its Ottoman heritage. Alaattin Yılmaz, speaking about the tree’s significance, remarked, “This plane tree, representing Ottoman conquests and traditions, stands tall as a symbol of Taraklı’s rich history.” He added, “Legend has it that after Osman Bey’s conquest, this tree was planted around 1294, marking it as a verified 700-year-old plane tree.” However, Yılmaz expressed concern over the tree’s health, noting the formation of fungus on its trunk, emphasizing the urgent need for treatment to preserve this invaluable piece of history.
