UN Security Council Convenes Emergency Session on Gaza

The United Nations Security Council held an emergency session, prompted by the United Arab Emirates, to address the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Philippe Lazzarini, the General Commissioner of the UN Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), expressed concerns over unprecedented destruction in Gaza and the tragic human toll. He noted that despite Israeli warnings, many Palestinians seeking shelter were killed, emphasizing that no place in Gaza was safe. Lazzarini also highlighted the devastating impact on women and children, with approximately 3,200 children killed in three weeks, surpassing annual child casualties in conflict zones worldwide since 2019.
