Russia and Ukraine executed their first prisoner swap since July 2023, mediated by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Russia released 230 captives, including soldiers, while Ukraine freed 248 captives in the exchange.
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the return of 248 soldiers from Ukrainian control, acknowledging the challenging negotiations and UAE’s humanitarian mediation. The soldiers were transported via military planes to receive medical and psychological support.
Ukrainian President Zelenskiy announced the return of 224 soldiers and 6 civilians from Russian captivity.
