Seddülbahir Castle’s Restoration Nominated for Architizer A+ Awards

 

The recently restored Seddülbahir Castle, a significant site on the Historical Gallipoli Peninsula of Türkiye, has garnered global recognition by reaching the finals of the prestigious Architizer A+ Awards. Built in the 17th century by Hatice Turhan Sultan, mother of the Ottoman Sultan Mehmet IV, the castle played a crucial role during the Gallipoli Wars. It has now been transformed into an open-air museum, showcasing artifacts and relics from the era, including Ottoman soldier tags, French pocket watches, and war materials. Visitors can explore the castle’s rich history, from its construction to its role in the Gallipoli Wars, and pay respects at the nearby cemetery of the first martyrs. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan inaugurated the museum on March 18, marking the 108th anniversary of the Çanakkale Naval Victory. Public voting for the Architizer A+ Awards will continue until May 10, highlighting the global interest and recognition of this historical landmark’s restoration and conservation efforts.
