Ancient Byzantine Mosaic Unearthed in Ordu, Türkiye

A significant archaeological discovery has been made at the Saints Constantine and Helena Monastery in Ordu, Türkiye. Excavations led by the Ordu Museum Directorate in Fatsa district uncovered the first in-situ floor mosaic in the province, dating back to the 5th or 6th century. This mosaic, linked to the Early and Late Byzantine periods, is considered unique due to its originality and its location within a monastery.

Ordu Provincial Culture and Tourism Director Uğur Toparlak highlighted the importance of this find, noting that ongoing excavations at multiple sites in the region may reveal more significant artifacts in the future.
