Pakistan’s government has authorized its armed forces to respond to India’s recent missile attacks, calling the strikes a “clear act of war under international law.”
Following a National Security Council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office condemned the attacks, which reportedly targeted civilian areas and caused civilian casualties. Citing Article 51 of the UN Charter, Pakistan declared its right to retaliate in self-defense at a time and place of its choosing.
The attacks, claimed by India to be in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, were said to have endangered regional air traffic and violated Pakistani sovereignty. Pakistan rejected allegations of harboring terror camps and criticized India for refusing calls for an impartial investigation.
