Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, speaking in Rome alongside Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani, warned that Israel’s “expansionist policies” now extending to Qatar should “awaken those who turn a blind eye to Netanyahu.” He voiced full solidarity with Qatar after Israel’s strike in Doha targeting Hamas officials and urged stronger international measures against Israel.
Fidan also highlighted Türkiye’s growing partnership with Italy in trade, energy, defense, and migration, aiming to raise bilateral trade from $32 billion to $40 billion. He praised Baykar’s acquisition of Italy’s Piaggio Aerospace and cooperation with Leonardo as signs of deepening defense ties.
On regional issues, Fidan said Türkiye and Italy share common ground on Libya, Ukraine, and migration. He reaffirmed that full EU membership remains Türkiye’s strategic goal and stressed that a sustainable European security architecture is only possible with Türkiye’s full participation in NATO.
Addressing the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, Fidan warned of the risk of further escalation, called for peace talks to resume, and underlined the need for the international community, including the EU and UN, to take more decisive action.
