Six Roman-era statues were stolen from the National Museum in Damascus after staff discovered interior doors broken early Monday. Syrian authorities said the theft targeted several archaeological pieces, including a Venus-themed sculpture. The museum was closed and security tightened.
Internal Security Chief Osama Atkeh said museum employees and nearby residents were being questioned, while the Culture Ministry issued a notice detailing the stolen works and urged public assistance. Officials are also investigating whether the artifacts may be smuggled abroad.
