Amid severe power outages in Gaza, Yahya Hajij from Gaza City has converted an armored vehicle abandoned by Israeli forces into a solar-powered phone charging station, offering locals a much-needed lifeline.
Hajij said he launched the project both to earn income and to help residents struggling to charge their phones. With rental spaces unavailable or too costly, he cleaned the vehicle for a week before setting it up under a bomb-damaged building. Despite the risk of collapse, he said people “have no other option.” He chose the armored vehicle over a tent for better protection and equipment storage.
