Cuba Protests Erupt Over Blackouts

Severe fuel shortages and rolling blackouts lasting up to 22 hours a day have sparked widespread protests across Havana, Cuba. Frustrated by the lack of electricity and basic necessities, thousands of residents took to the streets to block roads, bang pots, and demand an end to the crisis. Cuban officials attribute the deepening energy emergency to the ongoing U.S. blockade and surging global oil prices, which have severely restricted the island’s ability to import fuel. With traditional suppliers halting shipments under the threat of U.S. tariffs, the United Nations has recently condemned the blockade as an illegal barrier to the Cuban people’s fundamental human rights.
