To mark the 10th anniversary of Türkiye’s failed July 15 coup attempt, Palestinian artists have painted a striking mural of Turkish hero Staff Sergeant Ömer Halisdemir amidst the rubble of the Gaza Strip. The portrait was created on a destroyed wall in the Nusayrat Refugee Camp to honor the soldier who was martyred while resisting the uprising. Artist Abdel Muti Ashour explained the tribute’s powerful message, stating, “We wanted to show the world that just as we do not forget our martyrs in Gaza, we will never forget our martyrs in Türkiye either.” Local residents praised the solidarity behind the artwork, noting that it beautifully “reflects the strong bonds between the Palestinian people in Gaza and the brotherly Turkish people.”
