A training exercise by the Greek Cypriot National Guard sparked a rapidly spreading wildfire that destroyed 20 hectares of land in Southern Cyprus. Fueled by severe heat and strong winds, the blaze forced the precautionary evacuation of the Ayanna and Psevdas villages, with some homes in Ayanna sustaining fire damage. Emergency responders tackling the flames from the air and ground faced significant challenges reaching the source due to the severe risk of unexploded ordnance at the military firing range. Despite these dangerous hurdles, crews successfully brought the blaze completely under control by early evening.
