UN Urges Evidence Preservation in Gaza Rubble

United Nations Human Rights Chief Volker Türk has warned that Israeli forces are bulldozing areas of Gaza “without any respect for the dead under the rubble.” As the remains of entire families are unearthed from sites destroyed since October 2023, Türk stressed the critical need to preserve forensic evidence for ongoing legal processes. With heavy rubble-clearing machinery banned by Israel, local civil defense teams have recovered over 630 bodies recently, though an estimated 8,000 people remain missing. Urging immediate access for international investigators, Türk called the situation heartbreaking, noting that the grim discoveries so far may only be “the tip of the iceberg.”
